Afternoon Nursery

Welcome to the Afternoon Nursery page!

Summer Term 2021
This term we will be learning all about seasonal changes from spring to summer. We will be exploring the beauty of our natural environment and will spend time nurturing our nursery garden and developing children's natural curiosity of their environment. We will be exploring the outdoor environment including collecting natural materials, and will enjoy outdoor experiences in all weathers. We will be helping to look after our garden during these months including planting and digging as well as caring for the wildlife in our garden. We will be following the progress of our vegetable patch and will continue to care for the plants ensure they grow healthy and strong. We will be learning all about the tiny creatures that live in the garden and will use tools such as magnifying glasses to take a closer look. We will be learning about life cycles and will follow the life cycle of a caterpillar. The children will care for caterpillars within the nursery and watch their magical transformation into a butterfly.

As a Rights Respecting School we will be focussing on a different right each half term. This half term will be learning about Article 19 which states we all have the right to be protected and we should treat each other with care. We will be exploring what it means to be kind and how we can support each other to be kind within the setting.

We will also be supporting the children who are leaving us this term as they make the transition to their Reception classes in September. There is always lots of reason for celebration as we watch the children blossom into caring, confident and resilient children but they will be greatly missed!

We always try to follow the interests of the children when we set up the nursery and plan activities. If you have any ideas you would like to add just talk to one of the nursery team :-)

A list of our core books are below.

Our core books this term are:

‘The very Hungry Caterpillar’

There’s a tiny caterpillar

There’s a tiny caterpillar on a leaf (wiggle, wiggle)
There’s a tiny caterpillar on a leaf (wiggle, wiggle)
There’s a tiny caterpillar, tiny caterpillar,
There’s a tiny caterpillar on a leaf (wiggle, wiggle)

He will eat the leaves around him ‘til he’s full (munch, munch)
He will eat the leaves around him ‘til he’s full (munch, munch)
He will eat the leaves around, eat the leaves around
He will eat the leaves around him ‘til he’s full (munch, munch)

A cocoon is what he’s spinning for his home (spin, spin)
A cocoon is what he’s spinning for his home (spin, spin)
A cocoon is what he’s spinning, cocoon is what he’s spinning,
A cocoon is what he’s spinning for his home (spin, spin)

Then he’ll be a butterfly and fly away (flap, flap)
Then he’ll be a butterfly and fly away (flap, flap)
Then he’ll be a butterfly, be a butterfly,
Then he’ll be a butterfly and fly away (flap, flap)

Here is the Beehive

Here is the beehive
But where are all the bees?
Hiding away where nobody sees
Here they come flying out of their hive
One, two, three, four, five!

Here is the beehive
But where are all the bees?
Hiding away where nobody sees
Here they come flying out of their hive
One, two, three, four, five!

Buzz up high, buzz down low
Buzzing fast, buzzing slow
Buzz to the left, buzz to the right
Buzz all day but sleep at night

Here is the beehive
But where are all the bees?
Hiding away where nobody sees
Here they come flying out of their hive
One, two, three, four, five!

Mary, Mary, Quite Contrary

Mary, Mary, quite contrary,
How does your garden grow?

With silver bells and cockle-shells,
And pretty maids all in a row.

Our Afternoon Song

(We sing a welsh song to say hello to our friends)

Prynhawn da ffrindiau, sut wyt ti?

Prynhawn da ffrindiau, sut wyt ti?

Prynhawn da ffrindiau, sut wyt ti?

Da iawn, da iawn, diolch!

(Translation in English)

Good afternoon friends, how are you?

Good afternoon friends, how are you?

Good afternoon friends, how are you?

Very well, very well, thank you!
