Tremorfa
Nursery School
In 2024, Tremorfa Nursery School created a new allotment space at Pengam Pavilion to provide children with rich, hands-on outdoor learning throughout the year. Children will travel by bus in small groups, visiting weekly to explore, learn, and connect with the environment.
The allotment includes raised beds, fruit trees, a compost bin, pond, hedgehog house, bird bath, woodwork area, cabin, and a portaloo. These features help children develop practical skills, independence, and an understanding of caring for the natural world.
Across a four-week block, children will take on meaningful jobs such as litter picking, weeding, feeding birds, digging for worms, tidying pathways, watering plants, and creating signs for the vegetable plots. These tasks promote teamwork, communication, problem-solving, and responsibility.
Throughout the seasons, children will grow and care for vegetables, experiencing the process from seed to harvest and tasting what they have nurtured. They will discover minibeasts, observe pond life, explore natural materials, and enjoy the sensory richness of the garden.
The project also strengthens community connections, with families and local volunteers supporting the space and celebrating children’s achievements. The fire circle encourages reflection and storytelling, making the allotment an inspiring place for lifelong learning.
