Nursery School
As part of our Bespoke Curriculum Offer, all children will have the opportunity to attend a block of Beach School Sessions.
Our aim is to support children to develop a deep love and respect for our beautiful Welsh coast.
Beach School is a unique educational experience. It is a process that offers children and young people regular opportunities to achieve and to develop confidence and self esteem. This is accomplished through hands-on learning experiences in a beach environment which is carefully planned and risk assessed. We will experience the beach throughout the different seasons; on some occasions for example in high wind or storms we will have to review safety procedures before making a decision if it is safe.
Beaches are an exciting and inspirational environment to learn and our aim is to help our children to develop lifelong skills about caring for the environment from such an early age, in a safe, fun and engaging way.
Its 'principle purpose' is to tailor make an educational curriculum to a child’s preferred learning style, taking into account his / her state of well-being and previous experiences.
Key Experiences during Beach School
Children face physical challenges such as rock climbing.
Children have first hand experience of the seasons.
Children explore rock pooling and learn about the wildlife found at the coast.
Children learn about marine life and habitats found in a coastal environment.
Children learn about tides, water safety and learn to keep themselves safe at the coast.
Children learn to respect and take care of our Welsh beaches and 'leave no trace'.
Polly Moakes and Daisy Worrall are responsible for leading the Beach School groups and are trained Coastal School Leaders.
