This week we have been learning all about the festival of Diwali, we have been making Diva lamps using clay, looking at books around the celebration, dressing up in traditional clothes, mark making rangoli patterns and learning about cultural traditions. Today we celebrated with cooking and having a Diwali party in the home corner. The children have been showing an interest in fire play and we look forward to the Firemen visiting in the new term to support our understanding of their role and how they help people. We have enjoyed lots of pumpkin play this week, scooping, exploring, carving and lighting our pumpkins. We wish you a lovely half term break and look forward to seeing you in the new half term!

We have been role playing Doctors in the home corner, learning about how to make people feel better. We have been reading the stories of 'Owl Babies' and 'The Very Busy Spider' in our group time sessions. Today we have been on a mini trip to Cardiff Bay enjoying a train trip and bus journey to the bay. We had a yummy teddy ice cream and hot chocolate! We also held a MacMillan coffee morning today and enjoyed tasting all the cakes! Thank you for your support.

This week in nursery the children have been busy outside in the muddy kitchen. They have been collecting the fallen leaves, herbs, conkers and other Autumn finds from the garden to make smelly soups and mud pies. We have been learning about the changes in our environment at Autumn time and some children have brought in some lovely autumn collections to share with us. Some children have chosen to play with clay and made some spiky hedgehogs like 'Hodge'. On Thursday we hosted training for the Foundation Phase Alliance, where people from all over Cardiff came to share and observe our practice. Polly is heading off to France on Saturday to observe practice in a French nursery classroom and is hoping to bring back some inspiring ideas to use with our little ones, and maybe even a little French.
