Tremorfa
Nursery School
Keep up to date with all the news happening in school at the moment.
Another busy week at Tremorfa Nursery School! The children have helped to set up their own pumpkin patch in the garden. There are a variety of different pumpkins of different shapes, sizes and colours. The children have been categorising them by size and setting a price for each. Lots of lovely language around size as they widen their vocabulary from big and small. We are supporting the children to use language around money such as pounds and pence. They have also been investigating the pumpkins further as they opened up a pumpkin to discover what was inside. We have set up our class charter for our Rights Respecting School work. Children have agreed that the articles chosen are important and relevant to our nursery. They include recognising that all children have rights, that they all have a right to be safe, they all have a right to be healthy and they all have a right to be listened to. We will send out more information on this within the activity section of Seesaw. In the art studio the children have been looking closely at their features as they do some lovely observational painting. They are beginning to recognise that we all have similarities and differences and they are starting to talk about these as a group. Please take a look at the activities sent out this week. We would really appreciate any family photographs and staff would be happy to print them in school. We will also be exploring One World Week next week. If you would like to share anything about your home traditions we would love you to send some information in. This could be as simple as a traditional recipe, song or story.
We have had another busy week in nursery this week. The children have been listening to the story ‘The Little Red Hen’ and have had a go at baking bread themselves. We have also been tasting different types of bread at snack and group times. Some of the children visited the local bakery and brought back lots of ideas for our own role play bakery. The children have been using their own experiences within their play as they explore buying and selling in the bakery and act out making the different breads. We have continued to learn our autumn songs and explore the autumnal changes in our nursery garden. The interest in colour mixing has continued from last week and the children have enjoyed experimenting with the powder paints in the garden. They have made some beautiful patterns!
This week in nursery the children have extended their interest in cooking and used real life fruits and vegetables in the home corner and muddy kitchen outside. They have loved the opportunity to explore real foods and this has sparked their imagination as they act out making recipes, baking cakes and soups! Lots of mathematical language as they talk about amounts, measuring and number of people they are cooking for. We have also used vegetables to print in the art studio this week. We are consolidating learning and reinforcing the name of vegetables. the children have also enjoyed colour mixing and are beginning to recognise that they can mix colours to make a new one. Forest school sessions have started for the first group of children and this has been a wonderful opportunity for them to experience the natural world around them. We have continued to read our core stories and sing our rhymes. You can find a list of these in the children's area of the website. We are reading The Little Red Hen and hope to do some baking and food tasting next week!
