Nursery School
Keep up to date with all the news happening in school at the moment.
This week in nursery the children have been exploring pumpkins, using tools to cut them open and then explore the texture and seeds. Lots of the children have been showing a great interest in Pumpkins, making pumpkins in the playdough and talking about the pumpkins on display on our autumn table. The children have enjoyed the sensory experience so we introduced the children to different textures such as leaves, spaghetti and pumpkin seeds which they enjoyed exploring with their feet! The children have really loved getting stuck in to explore the properties and have been using some lovely language to describe what the materials feel like.
This week we have also been inspired by the artist Yayoi Kasuma and have created an 'Obliteration Room'. We left dot stickers in a white space and showed the children a video of the famous artwork 'Obliteration Room'. They have really enjoyed making choices about where to stick their dots, sorting them, making pictures or randomly finding spaces to stick.
Our garden is full with all of the leaves that have fallen from the trees. The children have been raking up the leaves with a Jay and composting them - reading for us to grow our vegetables in the spring time.
Following on from the children's interests and the visit from a baker, we have created a bakery role play in our home corner. The children have enjoyed taking on the role of the baker and customers. The children have enjoyed mark making and creating shopping lists ready to visit the bakery.
We also had a visit from some actors who encouraged the children to use their imagination to create stories and act out songs.

Over the last few weeks we have been practising daily yoga poses and breathing techniques with our children. We have been chatting about what makes us happy and healthy. The children have loved having weekly yoga sessions and are showing confidence, giving their all and following the routine of the session. The children are showing a fantastic attitude to the new experience and a mature understanding of the purpose of the yoga.
This week in nursery, the children who went to B&Q were able to build a 'strong' wall. They put on their safety goggles and helped Jay to mix real cement. The children were very excited to use the items they had bought on their shopping trip.
We have also been following the children's interests in spiders by having spiders and pipes in the water where we have been exploring water flow and measure. The children have been developing their mark making drawing spiders and webs, looking closely at the shape and counting the legs on their spiders.
